What is “Eroica Style”

A Vintage Sportive

Copying the form and rules of Eroica Tuscany, Italy, this new Wisconsin ‘classic’ captures the essence of riding and determination of those who rode before us.

The bikes, apparel and accessories are to date before 1987 (or re-create the style with non-indexed shifters or single speed and rim brakes)

SPORTIVE: This is not a race, there are no time chips. This is a ride to complete, and that is no small feat even on a modern bike. The race will be unsupported excepting a water and snack drop at about 60km. There will be no medical, mechanical or staffed stations on this ride. You ride at your own risk. You ride like they used to, on what we used to. Vintage grit.

The Sportive is free! Donations to support its continuation will be taken at the Sportive start and finish.

100KM Departs at 8:00AM and the 50KM at 10:00AM on July 29th

You pay only in your own sweat. This is a free event. Donations for supporting food and beverages after the sportive will be appreciated. A Donation bin will be available.

Join us for food, beer and wine after the ride. We will also have the current days’ Tour of France Stage playing as well,

Full specifics will be sent upon signing up. We will start in Colgate and make a loop circling Holy Hill. This will be well over 3000ft of climbing and most of the roads are rural and backroads. A small gravel segment will be included.

Route

To keep in line with the vintage requirements, each participant will get a printed ‘old school‘ map on paper. Navigate like they used to. If you want to record your ride with a bike computer, please stuff it in your pocket or in a pack.

There will be marker flags along the route to help.

This is an unsupported event with no field personnel to help. We will have a mechanic at the start only and a water drop at about 60km to refill your bottles and grab a snack.
